Supervision services are provided by Dr. Sara Dougherty, who has been supervising BCBA and BCaBA trainees since 2017 and brings over 15 years of experience in public education.

Dr. Dougherty has worked alongside educators, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams and helps trainees learn how to do the same with confidence and professionalism.

BCBA / BCaBA Trainee Supervision Guide & Pricing

A practical guide for graduate students completing behavior analytic fieldwork in school-based settings.

Step 1: Determine Hours of Supervision Per Month You Need

Review 2027 BACB Supervision & Fieldwork Requirements for either BCBA or BCaBA and decide if you want to do standard vs. concentrated based on your budget and timeline. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) sets the national requirements for BCBA and BCaBA certification.​​

Standard Fieldwork

  • Lower supervision requirement but requires more fieldwork hours

Concentrated Fieldwork

  • Higher supervision requirement but requires less fieldwork hours

Step 2: Based on your fieldwork site, determine what hours can count.

Unrestricted Activities

Must be ≥60% of total hours in the end

These are behavior-analytic activities beyond direct implementation of plans. Examples:

  • Conducting functional behavior assessments (FBA)

  • Designing behavior intervention plans (BIP)

  • Graphing and analyzing data

  • Writing behavior analytic reports

  • Training staff, parents, or caregivers in behavior analytic strategies

  • Attending IEP or school meetings (if actively contributing behavior-analytic expertise)

  • Research and literature review for clinical cases

Restrictive Activities

≤40% of total hours in the end

These involve direct implementation of behavior plans with clients. Examples:

  • Running skill acquisition programs

  • Collecting data while implementing treatment protocols

  • Delivering reinforcement or prompting during sessions

*Your fieldwork setting must allow you to complete behavior analytic activities beyond direct implementation, such as assessment, analysis, training, and data review.*​​​​​​

Fieldwork Hours Per Month and Required Supervision

For BCBA Trainees, supervision must equal at least 5% of total fieldwork hours for standard fieldwork and 7.5% for concentrated fieldwork.

For BCaBA Trainees, supervision must equal at least 5% of total fieldwork hours for standard fieldwork and 10% for concentrated fieldwork.

Trainees may either pay monthly based on supervision hours completed or purchase bundled hours at a discounted rate.
