  • 🏡 Behavior is affecting success at home, school, or in the community.

What Is a Functional Behavior Assessment?

A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is an evidence-based process used to understand why challenging behaviors occur. Rather than focusing only on reducing behavior, an FBA identifies the factors influencing behavior so that effective, individualized interventions can be developed.

An FBA may include:

✔ Caregiver interviews

✔ Teacher interviews

✔ Record review

✔ Direct observation

✔ ABC data collection

✔ Behavioral data analysis

✔ Individualized recommendations

What You'll Receive

Following the assessment, you'll receive individualized recommendations designed to support meaningful, socially significant behavior change.

✔ Parent Coaching

✔ Educational Consultation

✔ Behavior Support Strategies

✔ Functional Communication

✔ Environmental Modifications

✔ Behavior Intervention Planning

Our Approach

We believe behavioral assessments should do more than identify the function of behavior—they should lead to practical, realistic solutions. Frequently Asked Questions

Does every behavior concern require an assessment?

No. During the initial consultation, we'll discuss your concerns and determine whether a behavioral assessment is the most appropriate recommendation.

What is the difference between a behavioral assessment and parent coaching?

Behavioral assessment focuses on understanding why behaviors occur through information gathering, observation, and analysis. Parent coaching focuses on teaching caregivers practical, evidence-based strategies to support meaningful behavior change.

What happens after the assessment?

Recommendations vary depending on your child's individual needs and may include caregiver training or parent coaching, educational consultation and school collaboration, focused behavioral support, or participation in a small-group program when appropriate. If your child would benefit from more comprehensive or intensive ABA services than ElevatED provides, we will discuss those recommendations and appropriate next steps with you.
